課程概述

The aim of this course is to introduce advanced concepts about epidemiologic research design in the scope of global health with practical sessions involved and corresponding sophisticated statistical analysis methods. This course includes two parts: The first part on advanced biostatistical analysis methods will provide an overview of more complex methods for statistical analysis of practical processes and further inferences of quantitative research data. In the second part on advanced epidemiologic research methods, we will introduce cutting-edge methodologies of quantitative research design, causal inference, and the basis of scientific comparisons in related literature. Real-life examples from published articles in the field of global health will be illustrated and further elucidated in the course.

課程目標
At the end of the course, students will gain the following core knowledge and competencies:

1.Explain the role of quantitative and qualitative methods and sciences in describing and assessing a population’s health (D17-3)

2.Explain the social, political and economic determinants of health and how they contribute to population health and health inequities (D17-10)

3.Explain an ecological perspective on the connections among human health, animal health and ecosystem health (e.g. One Health) (D17-12)

4.Scrutinize and apply qualitative and quantitative methods to provide evidence-based solutions to global health problems considering cultural safety and diversity (DGH-2)

5.Design, implement, and evaluate theory-informed and evidence-based research programs in an academia or practice setting (DGH-3)

6.Recognize and analytically evaluate socioeconomic, environmental, behavioral, and biological determinants of population health (DGH-4)
